Tyco Electronics Cake February 1, 2009

Filed under: Micellaneous Cakes — Gina Marie @ 5:47 pm

This cake was for a celebration. The customer wanted the cake to feed 50 people and also have a replica of the walkie-talkie style radio that the company sells. They, also, wanted the cake to have three distinct flavor layers to represent the three functions of the radio.

The half-sheet cake had a yellow cake layer, chocolate cake layer, and a red velvet cake layer. It was iced in vanilla buttercream. The radio was made out a loaf of pound cake covered lightly with vanilla buttercream. It was then covered with fondant. Everything on the radio was created out of fondant. The writing was edible food markers and writing fondant. The logos were made out of royal icing. They were traced out and filled in on waxed paper and allowed to harden. They were then placed on the finished cake.

The young man that wanted this cake for his birthday asked for chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. The basketball court is fondant (two colors marbled together) and the lines are drawn with an edible marker. The basketball hoops are plastic pencil toppers atop wooden dowels inserted into the cake.

Hanna’s First Birthday Cupcake Cake! October 26, 2008

Filed under: Birthday Cakes — Gina Marie @ 11:57 pm

This cake turned out amazing! It was a two-tiered (3-layers for each tier) Yellow Cake with Vanilla Buttercream icing. It was to feed about 20 people along with a matching “smash cake” for the Birthday Girl. We also included 6 matching cupcakes to make sure there was enough cake for everyone.

First, we will say it had a 8″ base with a 12″ top tier. After a lot of hard work, we delivered the cake. Somewhere along the travels, it started to fall (we think one of the wooden dowels in the bottom tier tilted on an angle which made the cake twist). Cake decorators get scared when they see a cake starting to lean a bit. We all had hopes, though, that it would hang in there and make it until the party the next day. We said lots of prayers after delivering that cake.

Not so lucky. The customer called in the morning telling us the bottom tier collapsed and the top slid off.

We prepared icing bags with tips and made a little “Emergency Repair Kit” and headed on our way to the customer’s home. We brought along an already iced 9″ base (3-layer) tier since the first base had collapsed. We salvaged the top layer and managed to slide it onto a new cake board and get it on top of the base. We fixed the icing and piped in where it needed to be fixed and added more sprinkles. We had brought a new cake board in with the new base so it needed writing again. All was well again.

All was accomplished and it looked great. If you didn’t know about the mishap, you wouldn’t have known a thing. The customers were very pleased with the cake and said it was exactly what they had invisioned. That makes it so worthwhile to see how happy they were and it was all that they wanted it to be. We surely hope Hanna had a great First Birthday!

After the “repairs” & at the party site

Once again…Sorry for the grainy Blackberry photos, but we always forget to grab the camera. LOL!

Here are some pics from the Family that requested the cake…

Thank you to the Family for sharing their photos of the cake at the Party!

Baby Shower Cake September 21, 2008

Filed under: Micellaneous Cakes — Gina Marie @ 11:29 am

This 1/2 sheet cake had a white cake layer and a strawberry cake layer covered in vanilla buttercream.

This being our first cake that we sold…It was pretty simple. The customer requested the flavors and that they wanted the colors to be blue, lime green, and yellow and blocks. Since the order was a little short notice, there was no time to try to fashion blocks out of fondant so we went with plastic ones purchased from the local craft store. Since the top was a bit plain, we sprinkled it with some green & blue edible shimmer dust. The customer was extremely happy with the cake when she picked it up and is ready to order another cake!

(Sorry for the grainy cell phone pictures…NOTE TO SELF: Remember the real camera next time! LOL!)

This cake is one yellow cake layer & one chocolate cake layer with vanilla buttercream icing. The road is chocolate buttercream colored black. Lightning McQueen & Mater were die cast Cars vehicles.

This cake was for the little boy who we did the Cars First Birthday cake for. This little boy is really into Cars the movie & looks forward to his Birthday cakes. He really enjoyed this one. And you know…Mater is the best back-up driver!

30th Anniversary Cake August 9, 2008

Filed under: Anniversary Cakes — Gina Marie @ 1:03 pm

This cake is a white cake with vanilla buttercream icing. The “pearls” are white fondant rolled into balls & covered with silver pearl dust. The roses are vanilla buttercream, also.

We made this one for a friend’s parents’ 30th Anniversary party. According to tradition, the 30th Anniversary is the “Pearl Anniversary” so we did the pearls. The yellow roses were requested.

Strawberry Wedding Cake August 3, 2008

Filed under: Wedding Cakes — Gina Marie @ 1:29 pm

White cake layers filled with fresh strawberries covered in strawberry buttercream & gumpaste flowers. There is a little red food coloring added to this icing to make it a little more pink. The flowers one top were fresh flowers.

This was the other Wedding cake from the double Wedding. The other couple decided on the strawberry cake for their choice.

Italian Cream Wedding Cake August 3, 2008

Filed under: Wedding Cakes — Gina Marie @ 1:28 pm

White cake layers filled with vanilla pastry cream covered in almond buttercream. Fresh grapes were used for decoration.

This cake was for a double Wedding. One of the couples wanted a “traditional” white Wedding cake. The topper is the same one the Bride’s parents had on their Wedding cake. Those are also the parents that we just did the 30th Anniversary cake for.
